Social Media Internship Gone Wrong

The Problem

I was hired as an unpaid intern to manage the social media for a Podcast, along with three other interns. The social media platforms lacked engagement and followers. The podcast was very related to therapy and non of us were familiar with psychology, therefore content production was very time-consuming. However, social media is one of my strengths as I have been managing different accounts for over 2 years! Now I had to not only perform this task of growing a social media platform but teach three other people how.

The Solution

The solution was through a lot of organization, failed communication, failed posts, and extra help from mentors. First, we had to determine the goal of the podcast, the impact they wanted to make on people. Then we had to define that audience and outline their struggles and their preferences. Third, we had to create a strategy for content creation and publishing that worked for the team and for our clients. In the end, I learned that you can’t make someone do something they aren’t interested in but you can make it as easy for them as possible.

The Outcome

Once a system was in place ie. a goal, the niche, and schedule things went a little smoother. We were able to generate organic growth, build a community, and get more awareness for their podcast. We were able to increase their engagement by 100% and increase their followers by 40% within two months. We also have left them a system they are able to replicate once our internship ends.
